First Snowy Owl of the winter. Yesterday we went out looking for Snowy Owls for our work with Project SNOWstorm. We were hoping to capture one that we could put a transmitter on, to better assess their wintering habits and habitats.

We have some fantastic news to share- we recently received a grant for $3,000 from the Paradise Community Foundation to help fund a mobile banding station (cargo trailer). We also received an individual donation for $5000 towards that same goal, and we are now able to purchase the trailer!

We’ve changed our transaction provider for donations to Zeffy, which is a platform that allows 100% of donations to go directly to the non-profit. Also, for those of you who inquired, you can now set up a monthly donation here: www.friendsofwp.org/donate

It’s the end of 2024 and the beginning of a new chapter for the Friends of Whitefish Point. We plan to continue all three seasons of owl banding in 2025, and your support is crucial to the success of our mission. Here are some details of our 2025 budget, and ways to support through both financial and in-kind donations.

We have an important update to share with you all. The Friends of Whitefish Point has formed a partnership with Lake Michigan Bird Observatory (LMBO) to act as our financial sponsor. This means that we are now able to raise funds for the 2025 Whitefish Point Owl Banding program and anything donated will be tax-deductible for our donors.
